Popular Mechanics August 1955

Popular mechanics is an American Magazine focusing on machinery and how it works, featuring a tagline “written so you can understand it. This cover features a large military ship docking in a hollowed-out cliff face. Images like these added to the cultural notion of American military might that was prominent following World War 2. The awe inspiring image of a gigantic ship in a gigantic cave must have been eye-catching in the 1950s. The cover also gives pretty obvious indication as to who their target audience is with the subtitle “build a playhouse your children can live in”. The cover art was likely done by.Frank Beatty, the art director. This magazine was purchased at a flea market at MIT.
